He's not tall, dark and handsome.
Instead he kinda short,(14.1) very blonde and really cute!
This is Ricochet....Ricky for short.
He earned his name by moving as quick and smooth as a bullet.
He and I are getting along marvelously and have been spending our days getting to know each other and training.
He is a young man, only 4, and not at all what I was looking for. He is a dappled palomino AQHA Quarter Horse gelding. He is bred for performance, like cutting and reining type events.
He is a grandson of Genuine Doc. We feel very lucky to have him and he has been a pleasure to work with so far. In fact, he has changed my whole perspective and really fired up my old horsey feelings that I thought were long lost. I thought I was ready for what horse folks call a "pasture plug". One that I could ride blind folded and with one arm tied around my back.
I didn't want to spend hours and hours training a young horse and I thought I was done with the whole horse show scene.
Well, well, well.
I have my husband to thank for this one.
I was gone on a trip with my cousin to watch her youngest son swear-in for the Army. She had watched her 39 year old husband swear-in just 3 weeks earlier so I needed to be there for her. ( Prayers... please)
I said to her "he's going to the Fall Classic Sale this weekend and I bet you anything he buys another horse". I also said " if he does, I'm gonna kill him". I was right! I know my man better then he knows himself.
I had completly shut down my love of horses.
Don't really know why, I guess thats what happens to a person sometimes, somewhere in the middle of living your life,.... a divorce, cosmetology school, a new marriage, a move across the state, a new home, a bussiness to run and children and step children....whew!!, you loose yourself somewhere.
Horses use to be my life, infact, horses are what brought my husband and I together.
I ran an add in the newspaper to sell my best mare, he came to look at her and the rest is history.
We still have her to this day, she is old now, but still healthy.
My "Honey" says that it was the most expensive horse he ever bought.
We always joke with people that we met in the classifieds. We really sorta did.
I have enjoyed being back in the saddle again so much, it was one of my goals I hoped to acheive when I stopped working. I can now apply all my hairdresser skills on the horses. They might squirm around alot, but they sure don't complain much.
This is my husbands horse Popeye. He is a AQHA buckskin stallion.
He is a great little horse and beautiful to boot.
He is such a gentleman and easy to handle, my husband has been riding him in an indoor arena full of mares and he has not acted up once. Not sure if we are gonna accept outside mares on him or not. If you live close by and are interested, let me know.
This is Goldie,
We bought her last weekend, we couldn't resist her. We will finish training her and put her back up for sale later. Hopefully quadrupling our money and making her a great riding horse for anyone. She is very gentle to handle, she just doesn't know much about responding to riding cues yet. She is learning fast though.
I need to sell her for a good profit to help pay for these.
I haven't had new boots since 1999.
The ones I have are still almost brand new looking, but very out of style. They are the old lace up kind and they feel to small now.
Sometimes......momma needs.... and thats all I can say.
Tony Lama 3R Buckaroo in sorrel and blue.....love them!
They should be here on Monday.....hopefully.
I am going to put them on and have my sweetie video me and Baby Daisy doing the Bunny Hop, her new favorite trick of the moment. She is a funny, funny dog. You have to see this!
Thats all for now, hope you have a wonderful Sunday,
Shanda

You sound like on happy lady at this time! Renewing old pleasures is one way of staying young.
Your new fella is gorgeous! Love those boots too. Dr. hubby went to the market the other day to sell a few cows and came back with a donkey. He wants a mule...I should have never let him near the mule-drawn carriages in New Orleans!
Loved your post today, your horses are beautiful. Can't wait to see you in your new boots!!
How exciting! I'm glad you are inspired and I love the story of how you met your husband. The boots are great!
What a wonderful story. I love your new horse.
From jars to horses. Shanda Shanda.
How could you do this to me? lol
Must say; after reading this, once again my heart skipped a beat and I longed to smell thee aroma of a good horse. Ricky is beautiful, and DOC blood ta boot!
I haven't had a horse in awhile and had told Myguy not long ago, that I've been "thinkin" bout horses again. ? Like you, ... other stuff came along. Mostly though, after I had to put my horse Laredo to sleep, I hadn't found another that I fell in love with again. Maybe someday!? I love short horses that you can get on bareback. 14 hands is perfect!
Love your new boots! SUPER CUTE!
Hope your ankle does okay in them.
Mine are fat babies.
Have a great day!
Happy trails
Hi Shandra,
Your life sounds very familiar to mine LOL! Does growing up in a salon count? My mom always said I should go to Cosmetology school but I didn't....now I just change my hair color/styles all the time! LOL! Love your new horses! That's great you're getting into riding again. I closed a mural shop to stay home and ride after 30 years of not having horses! Popeye is gorgeous. He reminds me of the daddy of two of my boys (Slick & Romeo) Stallion Too Slick Two Watch...go see his video at suziedavis.com...he's awesome...also a buttermilk buckskin QH. The music on the video is to the Spirit movie and it always makes me cry when I watch it.....poetry in motion! I'm riding my three yr. old that just came home from getting his first 90 days put on him and we're having so much fun! Happy riding!
Ricky is so darling; he has such a baby-face! I'm so happy that you've found a way back to your passion. Popeye and Goldie both look like sweethearts. Love those boots, and looking forward to seeing The Bunny Hop!
Flashy horses, not near as flashy as the boots though!
Love horses, such beautiful creatures. You certainly have one "in-tune" husband that knows you very well. Even though you say you know him lol. I'm happy for you all. Enjoy your riding!
Your new golden pony is beautiful! I do know the feeling horses can have on your life. After 16 years of riding, I got bit by the bug again, and now I'm a horse owner- the good, the bad, and the very poor schoolteacher! :) I do love it though, it makes me happy and I don't have other expensive hobbies.
I love those boots, very cool, and you are deserving!
Your fella is quite handsome. I will add your cousin to my prayers, how very hard it must be for her.
Loved the Hubby story.
Ya'll have a wonderful week!!!
Ricky is just beautiful! I know that you are going to enjoy having him so much. In fact, all your horses are beautiful. I enjoyed hearing how you and your honey met:) You do sound very happy and excited. I am happy for you. Have a wonderful week! Twyla
Good to have you back!
The horses are beautiful and it sounds like they are keeping you busy!
Looking forward to more posts.
hey girl...beautiful horses!!!! I am happy for you renewing you feelings for horses...we do seem to lose ourselves sometimes in life...funny how a sweet animal can take us back and renew our spirits so....take care girl and put your 'stick' on them lips and wear those new boots proud! lol ~Picket~
Oh Shanda I really like both those guys. I always said my next horse would definately be a palomino. We too were brought together by horses. The ground has gotten much closer and harder since then. I have been getting the fever lately and he shoots it right it back out of me!!!!!
I have eyed those same boots at Sheplers for quite a while too!!!!! Please get them for both of us!!!
I have never been on a horse in my life. But it is my dream someday to own a small farm and a horse or two. Not for business, really as pets and to get me around the farm and such. I think they're such noble animals. But first I'd have to learn how to ride and how to get on top of them...lol Oh well, some day my horse will come...lol (sing that to the tune of Snow White's: Someday my prince will come...lol)
What beautiful horses! I am glad that you are happy to be back in the saddle!!
